Candidature of Varna for European
Capital of Culture |
It was launched on 13
June 1985 by the Greek minister of
culture, the famous actress and singer,
Melina Mercouri. Initially, the
initiative was called European City of
Culture in a special motion of the
Council of Ministers of the Union.
The official document stated that the
European City of Culture was to present
a culture which in its historical roots
and contemporary development was
characterized both by common elements
and a heritage which had been due to
differences. |

Gallery Bulgary
Varna, San Stefano Str
Gallery Bulgary wishes to achieve a couple of different purposes, although only time will show whether those will be its directions. We will try to show the “return” of a number of Bulgarians, who realized themselves abroad, as well as the "come-back" or rather - the later appearance of the wave of artistic life of such artists, who were not so popular then - during the second half of the twentieth century.
These are all artists, though, without whom the palette of the artistic life in Bulgaria would have been very poor, because most of them have managed to reproduce permanently the feeling we all have nostalgia for - feeling the land which gave birth to us with all our senses, the smell of the land that gave birth to us and the heritage our ancestors left us.
